The mountain chain of the Balkans (Bulgarian: Стара планина, Stara Planina) is an extension of the Carpathians Mountains, separated from them by the Danube River. The Balkan Mountains spread 560 km from the eastern Serbia to the east, through the central Bulgaria, up to the Emine Cape, right into the Black Sea.

The length of the Bulgarian coast is 378 km long. Romanian seaside’s length is only 245 km. including the area occupied by the Danube Delta. The Bulgarian coast is as varied as the country's topography: open beaches followed by deep gulfs and lagoons, small dunes and steep cliffs, mountains covered by forests and romantic hills covered with vines and orchards, fishing villages, private villas, bungalows, modern resorts and golden sandy beaches.
